Description: An on-line tool to allow you to create and share documents. Google Docs allows you to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations, or upload existing files and then begin to work on them on-line. You control who has access, and whether they can edit or just view. When finished, you can export your document or publish it as a web page.
Review: I have a love/hate relationship with Google Docs. I do love the ease with which others can see the documents and how we can collaboratively work on the same file. I love that it looks similar to software I am used to using. However, I hate that it is NOT the same as the software that I am used to using. I like MS Word. I like Excel. I don't like things that almost look the same but are not quite the same. I find it annoying. That being said, for very simply documents which you want to share with others, Google Docs works quite well. I would not use it for anything that really requires the full power of Excel or MS Word. You will end up frustrated. As for pricing, as usual, you can't beat Google for giving things away. They make their money elsewhere, so it is a free app. The ability to access things anywhere is the hallmark of SaaS and Google does it well. Some people categorize this product as Document Storage, but I feel it is more about collaboration, since once I upload the document it is in Google's format, not the original. If you just want to store the docs for others to access, I'd use BaseCamp.
